Grills - The Options are Endless

There are as many types of quality grills available today as the day is long. Gas, charcoal, electric, pellet, smokers are the best types of grills available to you. You can choose from a custom built grill or a variety of portable grills for camping and family picnics. The key is to do some research on the equipment available and what works for you. Will you be doing a lot of backyard entertaining, or are you an outdoor enthusiast who likes to take to the campgrounds on the weekends? By narrowing the field down, you have so many options to choose from. Let's try to simplify the decision making process.

Grills consist of three basic things. A heat source, a cooking grate and a box to surround it with. They can vary in price from $50 to $30,000. Gas grills are the most popular type where the heat source is a single or set of gas burners, either propane or natural gas. The burners sit under a barrier of steel, cast iron or ceramic briquettes that in turn sits under the cooking surface which is open to the flame(usually) and made of anything from cheap steel to high grade cast stainless steel.

Charcoal grills are also popular because the flavor of the food being grilled is more authentic. Charcoal grills tend to be smaller and are designed to hold in heat and let you control the flow of air. Grilling with an electric grill is another option, however less popular because it does not have the flavor and authenticity as the others do. It is used where grilling with gas or charcoal is not allowed.

The Kamado cooker, aka the Big Green Egg, Grill Dome, and Primo Grills is a large, heavy ceramic grill, usually charcoal that can do almost everything and is very sturdy. Because of the design and vents, you can smoke, grill, roast and bake. These are very versatile and and durable.

A Pellet grill can smoke and grill by using hardwood pellets and produce heat and smoke that give you authentic fire cooked foods. The list continues on to the portable grills and the features they provide. Namely, versatility and portability.
