Outdoor Fire Pit - Brings Warmth and Ambiance and Can Grill Too!

The definition of an outdoor fire pit is a small fireplace for your backyard and gives those summer nights in the back yard the feeling of camping as well as taking the chill out of those brisk summer evenings. It adds ambiance and a touch of fun for the whole family. There is something comforting and compelling about a crackling fire that seems to draw people to it. In the past, people would build an outdoor fire pit right into the landscape of their backyard. This usually was in a permanent location so one had to be sure where you placed it in the scheme of things.

Now, the portable backyard fire pit has become a wonderful alternative to these permanent structures and you will be surprised at the style and selection available today. Many backyard fire pits come with a grill to convert your fire pit to a barbeque pit. You can cook those steaks first, then sit around the fire afterwards! Basically, there are two types of backyard fire pits that you can choose from. The most popular is made of metal and a fire can be built in the recessed center area. These portable fire pits have screens with doors for adding wood and many also have lids that can be used to control fires and keep out rain when the fire pit is not in use. It is common to find these metal fire pits with wheels and handles that make moving them around the yard a snap.

The second style of a backyard fire pit is made from earthenware and are designed as backyard hearths or come in the form of a small chimney or what is called a chimenea which has that old potbelly stove look. Though charming, consider that the door to the chimenea is relatively small, allowing the heat to radiate out in a very narrow band. This style is used for only a few people. However, an open design is preferred if more that 4 or 5 people will want to warm themselves around the fire.
