Outdoor Fireplaces - From Marshmallows to Safety Tips

When you were a child, did you ever cook hotdogs over an open fire? Remember roasting marshmallows on a stick? Outdoor fireplaces definately add a glow and charm to any outdoor living area, especially on a cool summer night.

An outdoor fireplace is just like one indoor. You have a firebox, chimney, flue, and hearth and wood. Because they are constructed the same as an indoor fireplace, they often must meet local fire code regulations. And, usually you can build outdoor fireplaces into a wood deck. (It's best to check with your local building official and fire department about any codes.)

Chase away the chill in the coming months with the addition of a fire pit, chiminea, or fireplace to your backyard. These options allow you to spend more time outdoors with your family as cooler weather arrives. But remember to be safe so you can enjoy them fully.

Outdoor Fireplace Tips

Use kindling, newspaper, and dry logs to start your fire.

Never use gasoline or other flammable liquid to start a fire.

Just like indoors, never burn chemically treated wood.

Don't leave any type of fire unattended.

Don't leave children unattended by an open fire
