Wooden Outdoor Furniture - Standing the Test of Time

Wooden outdoor furniture has stood the test of time. People love it’s classic looks. Many love the way it gracefully softens into a silvery grey, while others prefer their outdoor furniture of wood to retain it’s golden natural look.

If you don’t want your furniture for the outdoors to have a raised grain as it silvers try using a wood sealer. You will still get that lovely aged look, but the surface will not rise. A water sealer would be your choice to keep the wood looking its original white, gold or brown. Although you will eventually have to sand it down to its natural form. Oiling your wood will also help to maintain it’s new look, but this must be applied more than once a year.

Regardless of what you choose as your finish you will love the benches, armchairs, dining chairs, curved benches, rockers, gliders, Adirondack chairs, deck chairs or folding and stacking chairs. Don't forget picnic tables, planters, arbors, gazebos, bar furniture, and more. A round, square, rectangular or oval dining table with matching chairs would look great on anyone’s patio.

Some of the best choices for outdoor wooden furniture are teak, cedar, redwood, wicker, rattan and cypress. Teak and cedar are always favorites because of the beauty, and their durability. They are able to withstand harsh west coast winters and the blazing southern sun. They will also withstand an active family and the abuse they mete out to their furniture.

Shop for furniture that is cut with precision, so the joints fit snugly and securely. Look at the edges for a smooth snag free finish. Cedar furniture hardware should have a zinc plate finish to avoid joints that loosen and guard against corrosion. Lastly most furniture will be put together by the purchaser on delivery so look for predrilled holes and hardware included for a fast easy assembly.
