A Good Patio Set Will Stand the Test of Time |

November 06, 2004 By: Fran Christie A Good Patio Set Will Stand the Test of TimeMost budgets can accommodate a set for the patio with iron tables and complimentary chairs. Iron will rust so a wise consumer will look for a wrought iron that is thickly coated for corrosion protection. Some companies, to bond the materials more strongly, use sintering. This is a process whereby they use heat and pressure to create a stronger material. Other popular choices are cast aluminum, which is a sturdy lightweight product, and bright shiny steel. A table and chair set made from wood for patios has always been a favorite choice. Cedar and cypress are popular and durable woods that are grown locally in the US and Canada. These woods can be oiled, stained, sealed or left to gray naturally. A great wood for outdoor furniture is teak. Environmentalist suggest you buy from a company that gets it wood from reserves regulated and managed by the government forestry agency. Other woods that are less common, and perhaps more costly are Brazilian cherry and other imported hard woods. You can find great web pages to help you decide what type of maintenance your choice of finish will require. If low maintenance is your desire don’t choose a wood that requires yearly oiling - go for the polypropylene resin.
