Adirondack Chairs - Built to Last

Adirondack chairs at first glance, with the steeply sloping seat and flat back, might lead you to think that it is for show only, but they have proven the test of time and continue to be the favorite chair in the yard, around the pool or at the cottage. If you have never heard of an Adirondack chair you would probably recognize the straight lines, and sturdy construction that is their trademark.

Adirondack chairs have not changed much since they appeared in New York State before the turn of the 20th century. You can build them yourself in a weekend from online plans. You can order a ready to assemble kit or a partially assemble chair which will ship in a matter of hours or days. When you order you may choose finished or unfinished, matching ottoman or footrest, collapsible or standard design, kid’s size, a rocking Adirondack chair or love seat.

Many builders prefer to use the Cypress, red cedar, white or yellow Cedar, which is lightweight and stable. It is bacterial and fungal resistant and is almost as strong as Oak. Western Red Cedar is especially good for the humid areas of the country as it has natural preservatives that make it resistant to rot and decay. You will also find high end chairs made from Mahogany, Oak and Teak. Other companies make the chairs with less expense by using pine. In this case make sure the chair is properly finished to give you years of enjoyment.
